Born in 1958, artist and designer Willo Altfeld passed training as smith and locksmith in his father‘s workshop established in Frankfurt am Main in 1956.
He received extensive education in contemporary and traditional techniques ot metal-shaping. Later, he complemented this with specialist knowledge in surface conditioning that still flows into his works today. Following his inclination, he left Frankfurt in 1980 to learn the art of cabinet making and gather experience in restauration of antique furniture in Düsseldorf, then and now hot-spot of German design and art. From 1983 – 1993, he worked as an indepentend artist and designer. He earned the title of master in the metal crafts in 1990.

ACCESSOIRES "INNOVATION“
Cool metal and glass undergo symbiosis in organic forms to differentiate in a wide variety of shapes. The elements of this collection – even more than the others – evoke connotations and bring live expression to highly structured rooms.
|
Creative thinking and an urge to develop and design opened up the art scene to him, documented through a vivid participation in furniture expositions at that time. His “Frankfurter Stuhl“ and others count among collectibles today.
The combination of cold metal with the warmth of wood laid fundament to his own collection of furniture and accessoires. Increasingly, he incorporated glass, both hand blown vases and bowls of his own devising as well as tinted glass as decorative element. He also regularly accepted to design and create interiors, especially for showrooms and restaurants.
After his return to Frankfurt in 1993, he continued to expand and remodel his collection and create fancy one-of pieces for private customers. To this end, he successfully accesses both his knowledge of styles of different epoches and his experiences in product development for renowned interiors companies. Today, he divides his life between Frankfurt and a 300 years old casa contadina in Piemonte, Italy as creative retreat.
